Empowerment through Comics

WORLD COMICS INDIA | Despite India’s rapid economic development and social progression, indigenous communities and here especially women, remain very vulnerable in terms of economic opportunity, political rights and societal acceptance. Our partner World Comics India (WCI) conducts comic workshops to highlight the problems girls and women are facing. This creative approach to gender based issues, distinguishes our new partner from many other organisations working on this subject.
In 2020, WCI and Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung creatively capture first-hand accounts and narratives from girls and women from indigenous communities during grassroots comic workshops in the western state of Rajasthan. The results will then be shown at an exhibition to the public. The purpose of the project is to identify, document and build awareness for lived realities and gender based concerns in rural areas. The project also aims to build momentum for the societal, developmental and political agency of indigenous people in the context of inclusion and gender justice in India.
