Domestic Workers – Stronger Together

MONTFORD SOCIAL INSTITUTE | Most of the female domestic workers in India work under precarious conditions. Although laws and rules regulating their employment have been strengthened over the last years, domestic workers often remain isolated and at the mercy of their employers. Together with the Montford Social Institute (MSI), RLS encouraged them to take up their struggle together.

This three year project has been successfully concluded in December 2015. MSI conducted leadership training for domestic workers from various towns across three Indian states. These included information on legal regulations, awareness building and development of practical political skills and how to make their demands and opinions heard. Many of the workers who took part in the training session afterwards build and enlarged their own network of colleagues, making it easier for them to raise their demands together and support each other. MSI also reached out to employers and the general public to advocate for workers’ rights.
